The Union for the Mediterranean Ministerial meeting on environment and climate change, which will be co-chaired by the European Union and Jordan, will take place in Athens, on 13 May 2014.

The last Euro-Mediterranean Ministerial Conference on Environment, was held in Cairo in November 2006. Since, the new growing environmental and climate-related challenges have emerged and require a close cooperation among all countries.

At the Ministerial meeting, the Executive Director of the European Environment Agency (EEA), Hans Bruyninckx will present the key messages and main findings of the H2020 Mediterranean Report, which provides relevant evidence on the progress achieved. This report is a joint effort by the EEA and the United Nations Environmental Programme - Mediterranean Action Plan (UNEP/MAP), and builds on the work undertaken by the review and monitoring sub-group of the Horizon 2020 Initiative., which was chaired by the EEA and supported by the ENPI-SEIS project. The report informs about the status of the three H2020 priority issues in the region and takes stock of the advancements made at regional and national levels in de-polluting measures.
